イザヤ 58.7-10・詩編 112.4, 6・1 コリント 2.1-5・マタイ 5.13-16
今日の朗読は、イエス様の弟子である事の意味を、私たちがもっと理解するための助けとなります。先週の福音朗読（幸いである事についての山上の説教）のすぐ後に続く福音朗読によって、私たちは、「幸いな人」とは、周りの人びとからも「見られ、感じられる幸い」を意味している事に気付くべきでしょう。ですから、私たちは、本物のイエス様の弟子としての祝福とは、たった一人のためのものではないという事を思い起こさせられるのです。今日の福音朗読の中でイエス様は、私たち一人ひとりが地の塩であり、光であるようにと、強く語られています。今日、私たちは、地の塩と光についてのシンプルなイメージを黙想することから始めて、私たちの日常生活の中でのこれらのシンプルなイメージ／出来事が、何を意図しているのかを心から認め受け入れていきましょう。
今日のイザヤの預言からの朗読は、飢えている人、家のない人、着る者のない人たちに対するたくさんの、そして様々なかたちでの神さまから擁護について、思い起こさせてくれます。
主は言われる。飢えた人にあなたのパンを裂き与え、
さまよう貧しい人を家に招き入れ、裸の人に会えば衣を着せかけ、
同胞に助けを惜しまないこと。
いつくしみへの招きが私たちにはあります。そして、これが今日の私たちに朗読の核となるメッセージと言えるでしょう。ある人は、謙虚に、そして勇気を持って手を差し伸べる人々を通じて、癒しと神さまの愛といつくしみを見出します。私たちの身近な人々が求めている事に対して、即座に応えることができるという事は、簡単且つとても実現可能なスタートとなるでしょう。
私たち一人ひとりが、謙虚さと思いやりといつくしみを持って隣人たちに手を差し伸べるという、この素晴らしい招きに応えようとする一方で、私たちとその隣人たちが、別々の時ではなく同じ時に、人の知恵によるものだけではなく、神さまの力によって信仰を見出すことができますように。私たちは、私たちが裕福であるとか、他の人々（隣人たち）よりも勝っているとかいう事をほのめかすために、手を差し伸べるのではありません。コリントの教会への手紙の中で、パウロは、かれが「そちらに行った時、衰弱していて、恐れに取りつかれていたが、神さまの霊の力が残るよう、イエス・キリストにのみに心を向けていた。」と、とてもはっきりと記しています。私たちの今日の黙想から得られる種々の事柄（合わせたもの）によって、イエス様の弟子であるという事の意味を、少しでも見出すことができますように。
Today`s readings help us understand better what it means to be Jesus` followers. With a gospel reading that immediately follows from the gospel reading last week (the Sermon in the Mount re.Beatitudes), we ought to realize that “the Beatitudes well lived” means “seen and felt blessedness” by others. We are therefore reminded that the blessedness of Jesus` authentic follower is not just for one self. Jesus, in our Gospel reading today further stresses that each one should be salt and light in the world. Let us begin our reflection today with the simple images of light and salt, and recognize from the heart what these simple images/things in our daily life do to what they are intended.
Today`s reading from the book of prophet Isaiah continuously reminds us of our Lord`s advocacy for the hungry, the homeless and the naked in many and different ways.
Thus says the LORD: Share your bread with the hungry,
shelter the oppressed and the homeless; clothe the naked when you see them,
and do not turn your back on your own.
There is a call to compassion, and it can be the central message of our readings today. One finds healing and God`s love and compassion through people who humbly and courageously reach-out to them. Being able to attend to the immediate needs of people of our reach can be an easy and very possible start.
While each one (tries to) respond(s) to this sublime calling of reaching out to others with humility and compassion, may we and the people we serve at the same time find faith not solely, or maybe not at all, in human wisdom, but in God`s power. We reach -out not to insinuate that we have more, and that we are higher beings than them (others). Paul, in his letter to the Corinthians is very clear that he "reaches out with fear and weakness, focusing solely on Jesus Christ so that what remains is the power of the Spirit of the Lord". With bits and pieces from our reflections today, may we have at least a glimpse of what it means to be a follower of Jesus.
